Here it is; the computer that you have always wanted. The manual tells you very little about why or how to use many of the programs on it. You know you are supposed to clean the hard drive but you are not quite sure how to do that. What is antispyware? Well I can answer many of those questions for you and a few more.

You should have a firewall, antivirus software, and a disk cleaner on your computer. When you save files to your computer you should have a folder that they will go into such as, pictures, music, documents and so on. Clean off all the icons from your desktop that you do not often use, as you can find them in the start menu or under programs. Take off any programs from the start up menu as it can slow down the start up process.

Each website you visit places files on your computer. You need to clean these files out. This is what a disk cleaner will do. It searches for duplicate files, or files that are no longer needed or used by your computer. It cleans them off of your hard drive. These would include files from your temporary folders cookies and cache. This should be done daily or every few days depending on your computer use.

A disk cleaner, registry cleaner and defragmenter keep your computer clean and more organized. You will need to use these programs weekly or biweekly. You should also remove icons from your desktop that you do not frequently use. Remove programs from your startup that do not need to be there. Your antiviral program and firewall should be on your startup menu. By doing this it will take less time for your desktop to load on startup.

A registry cleaner can keep your registry clean by removing old file strings, which will keep your computer running better. Keep an anti spyware program on to help you to avoid and clean any spyware from your computer that comes along with some programs like free ones.

Run your disk defragmenter bi-weekly or monthly to compress and move files on your hard drive that will make it run smoothly. This should depend on how many files you place on your computer over a week or month as to how often to run this. Run the registry cleaner weekly to keep stray files out of your computer hard drive.

Make sure to use the uninstall program on your computer do not just delete the folder. If you are unsure of what a program is, leave it alone until you find out, as you do not want to remove a program that your computer uses. If you follow these suggestions it should help you keep your computer in good working order.

Chuck~ While I certainly appreciate this piece, I would have liked for you to explain HOW to do some of the things you suggest. For example, how does one remove programs from the Start Up menu? While I'm not completely "computer illiterate", I still have much to learn and your piece could've been much more effective if you'd given specific "how to's". I thank you for your offering, even still!
